Company Kicks Off Summer of Savings Anniversary Specials

Fort Worth, TX, July 7, 2017– Firmly rooted in tradition, with an eye on the future, Tornado Industries celebrates its golden anniversary with 90 years in business. To celebrate, the company will offer special savings to its network of distributors.

Since its beginnings in 1927, Tornado has developed into a leading innovator of "Best in Class" industrial and commercial cleaning equipment. With nine decades of janitorial/sanitation industry experience, Tornado provides in-house cleaners, contractors and facility managers across a broad-range of market segments with affordable, and innovative cleaning technology to meet the most demanding cleaning challenges.

Originally founded as the “Breuer Electric Mfg. Company,” Tornado began in a small facility in Chicago, Illinois, building and selling portable electric blowers for cleaning electric equipment. The Tornado brand name was launched shortly after, as the company began designing and producing commercial and industrial vacuum cleaners, hot air blowers, electric insecticide sprayers, and dust collectors.

Following the war and conversion to peacetime construction, the company added numerous products and entered the floor maintenance industry by acquiring the Fay Floor Machine Company. In 1977, the company moved to a location on Chicago's Northwest Side, near O'Hare International Airport.

In February 1999 three members of the senior management team, Michael Schaffer, Gary Cirone, and Tom Bogusevic, acquired the business from the Breuer family. The ownership change initiated a major product, dealer, and staff expansion. Tornado now carries a complete line of both hard and soft floor care equipment, including vacuums, carpet extraction equipment, floor machines, sweepers, automatic scrubbers, and critical filtration vacuums.

In 2007 Tornado Industries was acquired by Tacony Corporation and now operates in Fort Worth, TX as a subsidiary in the Commercial Floor Care division.

Tacony Opens Tacony Achievement Center

November 1, 2012

FENTON, MO— For over 66 years, a private, family-owned company has thrived by supporting independent retailers. Tacony Corporation prides itself in building lasting relationships with its customers, and one way to do this is through exclusive retailer training. Now, as part of this continual customer support, Tacony will celebrate the opening of the Tacony Achievement Center, a state-of-the-art training facility. The ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by refreshments and tours, will take place on November 28 at 5:00 p.m.

The new building is nearly 12,000 square feet, and Tacony has already spent over $1 million on the building purchase and renovations including new carpeting, walls, paint, furniture, lighting, sound systems, wireless capabilities and other technology additions.  A computer lab, with 12 work stations and video conferencing capabilities, and an audio/video recording and photography room was also added to the building.

"The building will be a great place to showcase our products while providing a comfortable environment for trainees,” Kristin Tacony Humes, Executive Vice President of Tacony Corporation, said.

Tacony Corporation focuses on retailer and consumer education as a key part of its sales and marketing programs. Sales and product training is essential in today’s market and is just one example of how Tacony provides its retailers with the tools for success.  Similarly, many retailers recognize the benefits of hosting consumer events. Future consumer training is planned for the Tacony Achievement Center (TAC) as an extension of these retailer programs.

Currently, Tacony holds training and retailer seminars about three weeks out of every month. With the acquisition of the new building, Tacony Corporation saw an opportunity to increase the number of trainings and provide additional space. The TAC will host training for employees, independent retailers, and consumers.

“We have needed a larger training area for our Tacony Baby Lock [sewing machine] dealers for quite some time, and this new facility will also give us some office expansion space,” Ken Tacony, CEO of Tacony Corporation, said. “In the future, we would also like to be able to bring in our Simplicity and Riccar [vacuum cleaner] dealers for enhanced product demonstration and technical training.”

The center of the TAC consists of one expansive room that can be broken into two smaller rooms with a collapsible wall. Each room is equipped with large projection screens and audio for easy demonstrations to large audiences. Plus, to make trainees more comfortable while visiting, the new building also has a lounge with a fireplace, television, internet and a kitchen area. This provides an opportunity for trainees to stay on site and mingle during break times.

“It’s like a fantasy island for our customers,” Linda Rainwater, Baby Lock National Training Manager, said. “Who wouldn’t want to get hands-on experience using the best equipment available?”

Rainwater is referring to the innovative Baby Lock sewing, quilting, embroidery and serging machines that are used during Baby Lock trainings. Additionally, in Baby Lock retailer and consumer trainings, each trainee will be stationed at their own Koala Studio.

“It gives us an opportunity to utilize a beautiful, dedicated training space with incredible audio visual capabilities,” Rainwater said. “It will also inspire our customers to recreate the experience in their stores or homes.”

When used for either Baby Lock retailer or consumer training, the large room can fit up to 40 sewing stations. When used for corporate training events or floor care seminars, the room can fit up to 100 people. There is also an oversized storage/warehouse to house the products used for training and alleviate some of the work for warehouse employees.

The Tacony Achievement Center will not only benefit Tacony Corporation, but the city of Fenton, too. With the new facility, Tacony plans to expand its retailer training schedule which will bring more people to Fenton each year.
